2025 - Shared ownership: moving forward together
On May 12, 2025, Ralf van der Zanden and Nick Voets joined founder Ronald Verberne as shareholders. This step marks the transition into a new phase: shared ownership as a foundation for continuity, commitment, and entrepreneurship from within — an important step in future-proofing Ingenia.
2022 - 20 years of Ingenia: reflecting and looking ahead
Ingenia celebrated its 20th anniversary. What began as a small consultancy with a clear mission has grown into a stable, multidisciplinary organization. This milestone year not only marked reflection on past achievements but also a forward-looking perspective. The climate challenge and circular transition demand acceleration, and Ingenia is ready to continue playing its role.
2019 - Loss and continuation
The Ingenia team was deeply affected by the unexpected passing of colleague Bart van Beers. His energy, expertise, and dedication continue to inspire.
In the same year, Bintell was founded — a new start-up focused on producing green bitumen from, among other sources, animal manure, arising from a collaboration with Bjond Innovation.
2016 - Contribution to standardization
Ingenia joined the NEN standards committee for solid biofuels, actively contributing to the development of quality standards within the sector.
2015 - Accreditation for solid fuel sampling
Ingenia was accredited for sampling solid biofuels, secondary fuels, and waste. Collaboration with the GBA laboratory was further expanded and strengthened.
2014 - Relocation to Esp business park
In December, Ingenia moved to a new facility at the Esp business park in the North of Eindhoven. The additional space enabled larger-scale pilot installations and further expansion of applied research.
2010 - Fifth Ingenia Bioenergy conference
The fifth edition of the Practice Day attracted 430 participants. In the same year, Ingenia invested in advanced drying equipment to simulate and optimize biomass drying at laboratory scale.
2009 - Bio-based innovation leads to spin-off
Ingenia developed a biodegradable packaging material based on roadside grass. This patented innovation led to the creation of Haynest, an independent company focused on sustainable packaging.
2008 - Relocation to Van Thienenlaan
To support further growth and R&D, Ingenia moved to a larger facility with laboratory space at Van Thienenlaan in Eindhoven. Collaboration with TU/e was strengthened through research into pyrolysis and plastic depolymerization.
2007 - Bioenergy in practice
Ingenia realized the smallest bioenergy plant in the Netherlands at Groendomein Het Wasven. The installation runs on second-generation fats and was officially opened during the third “Bioenergy conference”.
2006 - Biodiesel setup & second Ingenia Bioenergy conference
The laboratory was expanded with a facility for producing biodiesel from used cooking oil and animal fats. The second “Bioenergy conference” once again confirmed strong interest in practical innovations in sustainable energy.
2005 - First Ingenia Bioenergy conference
On March 17, Ingenia organized the first “Bioenergy conference,” themed “Bioenergy in Industry.” With over 300 participants, it became clear that knowledge sharing is a core part of the mission.
2004 - Opening of in-house laboratory and first pilot setups
Ingenia established its own laboratory with digesters at various scales (1, 15, and 400 liters). This created a unique combination of consultancy and hands-on research — forming the foundation for future innovations.
2002 - Founded on the TU/e campus
Ingenia was officially founded on January 1, 2002, on the campus of Eindhoven University of Technology. Built on a strong technical foundation and a clear vision for sustainability, the firm set out to deliver practical sustainability solutions for industry — independent, knowledge-driven, and committed.
2002 - The founding of Ingenia
Established in Eindhoven. From the very beginning, the focus has been on practical technical sustainability: small-scale, independent, and driven by in-depth expertise.
